The Legend of the Crying Stone
Once upon a time, in a small village in Kalimantan, lived a poor widow and her only daughter. The daughter was very beautiful, but she was also arrogant and spoiled. She never helped her mother and always demanded luxurious clothes and jewelry, even though they were poor.
Every day, the mother worked hard to provide for them, often skipping meals just to make sure her daughter had something to eat. Despite this, the daughter never appreciated her mother’s sacrifices.
One day, they went to the market together. The daughter wore her finest clothes and walked ahead, pretending not to know her mother. When people asked who the old woman behind her was, the daughter answered, “She’s just my servant!”
Hearing this, the mother was heartbroken. With tears in her eyes, she prayed to God, “Oh God, please punish this ungrateful child.”
Suddenly, dark clouds covered the sky and thunder roared. Slowly, the daughter’s feet turned to stone. She cried and begged for forgiveness, but it was too late. Her whole body turned into stone.
To this day, a stone stands on a hill, shaped like a girl with tears on her face. The villagers call it "The Crying Stone".
